Rochon Born from Torrance (a suburb of Los Angeles), is the daughter of Zelma Staples. Her parents are Samuel Staples a graphic designer and businessman. She graduated in 1982 from Cerritos High School in Cerritos, California. She completed her bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism with minors from theatre and sociology in the California State University Dominguez hills (CSUDH).
